Today, smartphones aren't just part of adults' daily lives, they've become part of children's daily lives too!「The KNOW-IT-ALL RABBIT」is a picture book that reflects the feelings, thoughts, and awareness children experience through smartphone use. It offers parents a chance to reconsider just how important the people around them are, and how important it is to actually touch and experience things beyond the screen.

「どうすれば、子どもたちが広い世界における可能性を感じ、挑戦に立ち向かう勇気を持てるようになるのか」これが絵本「The KNOW-IT-ALL RABBIT」の出発点です。

　　　現在、「スマートフォン」は大人だけでなく、子どもたちの日常生活の一部となっています！「The KNOW-IT-ALL RABBIT」は、スマートフォンを使うことで子どもたちが感じる感情や思考、認識を反映した絵本です。親たちに子どもたちが周囲の人々の大切さやスクリーンの外で実際に触れることの重要性を再認識させるきっかけを提供する内容が含まれています。

The Charm of the Picture Book

The KNOW-IT-ALL RABBIT is a picture book created to convey a message to both children and parents: "these days, we can search for all kinds of information on smartphones and tablets, but seeing and touching the real thing matters enormously, especially for children at the age when they're learning."

　　　Kaori Sugawara, Representative and Director of Yumeterasu, hopes this picture book will bring smiles to children's faces, let them enjoy immersing themselves in the world of the story, and give parents and children a chance to share precious time together. That wish also comes from Kaori Sensei looking back fondly on the wonderful time she has spent with children in the past.

Creating the Picture Book

　　　Kaori Sugawara, Representative and Director of Yumeterasu, created this picture book together with creative designer Leia. This roughly two-year picture book project holds Kaori Sensei's dream of "wanting to give shape to something that only I, as I am right now, can express and pass on," together with Leia's dream of "wanting to deliver a picture book of her own design to children."

I want to see children's smiles and their rich imagination as they dive into the world of the picture book!
Back when I was a new childcare teacher and still didn't have much skill at reading picture books aloud, I was amazed to see the children's eyes go wide with delight as they looked at the pictures. Even during the same scene, each child's expression was different, and seeing everyone's varied reactions as I read made me so happy. Diving into a world like that, and giving children a dream through it, felt like something truly special to me.

I want to make the dream that only I, as I am now, can fulfill come true, and give children a dream of their own!
Through my years of experience as a childcare and kindergarten teacher, watching over children's growth right beside them, I've seen their development, their interests, and their ups and downs while apart from their parents. Watching this every day, I've come to believe from the bottom of my heart that this is truly a wonderful field to be in. I wanted to fulfill my dream of publishing a picture book, believing there's something only I can convey through it, something only I can do right now. So I made this dream and this feeling into reality together with designer Leia, who had always dreamed of creating a picture book herself.

Creating the Picture Book

　　　この度、ゆめてらす代表・園長菅原香織と、クリエイティブデザイナーのレイアが絵本を製作しました。約２年間にわたる絵本プロジェクトでは、かおり先生の「今の自分にしかできない伝えられないものを何か形にしたい」という夢、レイアさんの「子どもたちに自分のデザインした絵本を届けたい」という夢が詰まっています。

A Message That Can Only Be Told Because We Live in the Age of Mobile Phones and Smartphones

This picture book isn't meant to compare which is better, smartphones or real-life experience. Its message is that both matter.

Kaori Sensei put it this way: "I myself came of age right as communication through mobile phones and smartphones was taking hold. Precisely because we live in an age where we risk drowning in a flood of information, I hope this picture book can convey, in its own way, the role of information, how to judge it, and the things that can only be felt through real, hands-on experience."

Drawn From the Life Lessons Kaori Sensei Has Learned

"Because I know everything!" says the slightly headstrong Know-It-All Rabbit. While it's important to walk confidently through life in your own way, coloring your world with confidence, Kaori Sensei hopes readers will also come to feel that when you let your own confidence or assumptions harden into certainty, you can end up missing the true nature of things, or the happiness that's right there beside you.

"Actually, I based this on my own personality and my child's personality," Kaori Sensei said with a laugh.

A Picture Book That Offers a Chance to Reflect on How Precious and Fast a Child's Growth Is

Children grow up in the blink of an eye; early childhood passes by in a flash. Kaori Sensei hopes that, within the limited time we get to spend face-to-face with our children each day, this picture book can become a starting point for parents and children to enjoy talking together about the story, the illustrations, and the characters, and to let their imaginations expand together. She hopes it becomes a book where even the everyday memory of reading it together, or the quiet moment spent reflecting alone after scolding a child, becomes a precious memory in its own right.

At the back of the book, there's space to write a message, so please feel free to paste in a treasured photo or write down a few words. Perhaps years from now, your child will read that message with wide eyes, feeling a little embarrassed yet happy, like a letter written to their future self. By then, this time spent reading the picture book together will have become a nostalgic memory. Kaori Sensei says she, too, wants to treasure every moment of this limited time she has with her own child.
